Official Rules and Regulations for “Build the
Trust”
Adult Hobbyist LEGO® Building Challenge
WHO CAN ENTER: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Open to registered attendees
of BrickFest 2005 (excluding residents of Quebec, Canada) who are 18 years of
age as of 6/1/05.
HOW TO ENTER: In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the LEGO® System of Play, you are challenged to build a LEGO model to showcase design and craftsmanship. Participants must register their intent to participate in the contest by completing and submitting an entry form (available via www.BrickFest.com). Completed forms must be submitted via e-mail to press@america.lego.com or by fax to “Build the Trust” LEGO Building Challenge at 860-763-7736 by Tuesday, August 9, 2005.
Models may be built and entered in one of two (2) categories, each with two (2) scales:
NOTE: For Minifigure scale buildings, if you would like to be part of the
50th Anniversary National Trust Village: Construct your property so that
the length and width in studs is exactly 12+32*n, where n can be different
in each dimension. Build your property on base plates, except for one row
of studs along the outer perimeter (under the sidewalk); here have a row
of 1xn plates.* This allows the property to be connected to the road plates
along only one row of studs.
* This concept is a variation of Matt Chiles "City Planning" for
PNLTC. Following these guidelines will not increase your chances to win.
Entrants should bring their completed models to BrickFest 2005 on Friday August 12 for display through Sunday, August 14. A photograph of the model will be taken, which will become the property of LEGO Systems, Inc. with usage rights granted to AMH Productions (aka BrickFest).
Multiple entries are permitted; however, each entry must be different. Models must be constructed by one (1) person only and entries must be submitted in the name of the person who built them. Group entries are not permitted.
JUDGING: Onsite judging and announcement of Grand Prize winner will take place on Sunday, August 14. All entries will be judged by a committee comprised of a LEGO Group executive, a LEGO Ambassador, an executive from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Graham Gund architect from the National Trust. All entries will be judged on the basis of: engineering/construction/ detail of design (40%), originality (20%) and creative use of LEGO components (40%). Entries that incorporate specific design elements in LEGO form (Palladian Windows, Neoclassical columns, Prairie Style roofs, etc.) will be considered for special recognition, but these inclusions will not increase your chances of winning. All decisions by the judges will be considered final.
